Hoghan Teachings, Four Directions Teachings, and more....
Sketches from Larry Emerson's work with the Navajo Food Sovereignty Alliance...
" I write this from a similar place as I was in when I met Larry. Recently moved across the country and challenged with creating a home for myself. I find myself reflecting on the same ideas of "root shock" and how to heal that he shared with me four years ago. Learning about root shock from Larry, the idea that we too have roots like plants and they can't be pulled up and put down without care and thoughtfulness, was humbling. I spend so much time being tough on myself and others, expecting to adapt and heal immediately or do something perfectly. Larry stopped me in those tracks to remind me that we are not so removed from the plants and the natural world. That to do anything is a process. That to move a plant (or person) takes rerooting not pushing. He taught me (and so many) a little bit more about what it means to be human. I am forever grateful that our paths crossed." Kiera Maloney
